Upawas Misal is a legume-free version of the regular Misal (Steamed Sprouts and Savories Hot Jumble) that is prepared during days of religious fasting. First, a blended paste of raw peanuts, grated coconut and chopped coriander is added to a mix of sautéed diced potatoes and tempered cumin seeds, along with some salt and water. After the mixture is cooked, the contents are transferred to a bowl and topped with farali chivda (fried potato and nuts mixture) and salli (fried potato sticks) for enhanced flavour and crunchy texture.
