Tomato Saar is a nutritious beverage that is commonly served as an accompaniment with steamed rice and papad (traditional thin crisps) as part of a staple Maharashtrian dinner. A special blended paste is prepared using grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds and seedless red chillies. Tomato Saar is prepared by heating tomato puree mixed with water and this special paste and finally topped with a tempering of spices and condiments such as red chilli, asafoetida, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
