Nachanichi Bhakri are wholesome flatbreads of a finger millet flour dough that have a dense texture and a rustic flavour. Many Maharashtrian households include millet-based flatbreads into their staple diet as they are rich in iron, fibre, protein and a few trace minerals. A classic combination of hot Nachanichi Bhakri and a variety of pithalas (cooked mash of Bengal gram flour) and thechas (spiced paste-like condiments) makes for a satisfying meal. It is also consumed with a variety of vegetable and lentil preparations.
