Harbaryachya Dalichi Chutney is a delicious side dish that is prepared using roasted split Bengal gram, tamarind paste, fresh coconut, oil and some common spices and condiments. After the Bengal gram is roasted in oil with some curry leaves and red chillies, the grated coconut is added and the mixture is sautéed some more. This mixture is ground to a smooth paste along with a little water, before it is seasoned with the tamarind paste and salt and stirred thoroughly. Finally, a seasoning of tempered mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida is poured over the chutney and stirred well. Harbaryachya Dalichi Chutney is popularly consumed with a variety of South Indian fermented rice batter pancakes.
