Dal Kanda is a simple and delicious curry made with soaked split chickpeas, chopped onions and some common spices and condiments. The onions are sautéed in oil along with tempered mustard and cumin seeds, red chillies, garlic and curry leaves, before some red chilli powder and kanda lasun masala (can be replaced with goda, kala or varhadi masala blends) is stirred in. Chickpeas, water and salt is then added and the mixture is pressure-cooked until Dal Kanda is ready to be served, usually with a variety of unleavened Indian flatbreads.
