Mashed Pigeon Peas with Cooked Whole Wheat Flour Bits

Chakolya is a simple and satisfying dish of mashed pigeon peas with cooked bits of a whole wheat flour dough. The mashed pigeon peas are perked up with some tomatoes, green chillies, tamarind pulp, garlic paste, jaggery and further seasoned with a tempering of common kitchen spices. Bits of the dough are flattened, cut out in the desired shape and then cooked along with the mashed pigeon peas on a medium flame until Chakolya is ready to be served with a range of pickles, chutneys and papads!
